Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
GiKi Home ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. By using GiKi Home, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information - your name, email address, and encrypted password when you register with email. If you Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email (and a stable account identifier) from that provider. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
- Household data - meal plans, recipes (including optional recipe photos and private share links you create), shopping lists and to-order items, household tasks, events, and inventory items (including optional product photos) that you create.
- Financial data - transaction records, account names, budget amounts, categories, and scheduled or repeating transactions that you enter manually, including history you import or export as a CSV file. We do not connect to any bank or financial institution.
- Device information - push notification tokens to deliver reminders, your timezone for scheduling, and optional two-factor authentication settings for your account. Face ID or device biometrics, when enabled, stay on your device and are not sent to our servers.
- Usage data - basic logs (errors, API response times) for diagnosing issues. We do not use analytics SDKs that profile user behaviour.
- Camera and photos - with your permission, the camera is used to scan product barcodes and household invite QR codes, and your photo library is used when you choose images for products or recipes. We only store the media you explicitly save; we do not continuously stream or record camera frames.
- Location - with your permission, we use location while you use the app to help pin event venues on the map. We do not track your location in the background for advertising.
- AI assistant chats - messages you send to GiKi, its replies, optional facts you ask it to remember, and the household records it needs to look up (meals, tasks, shopping, inventory, finances) while you use chat.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the GiKi Home service.
- To sync your household data in real time across devices.
- To send push notifications for task reminders and household alerts (only if you grant permission).
- To respond to support requests.
- To ensure the security and integrity of our systems.
- To enable private recipe sharing and catalog imports when you choose those features.
- To run the in-app AI assistant when you choose to chat with GiKi.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union. All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text. You can enable optional two-factor authentication for your account. Product and recipe images you upload are stored in Amazon S3 in an EU region and delivered through controlled or time-limited URLs. We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or destruction.
4. Data Sharing
We may share data only in the following limited cases:
- Within your household - household members you invite (after an admin approves their join request) can see the shared data (meal plans, shopping lists, tasks, finances, inventory) as intended by the app. You can rotate invite codes anytime to invalidate old ones.
- Service providers - we use Amazon Web Services (AWS) for hosting, Amazon Bedrock for the in-app AI assistant, Amazon S3 for product and recipe image storage, and AWS for push-notification delivery. These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements - if required by applicable law or a valid legal process.
- Product and recipe lookups - when you scan a barcode we may query Open Food Facts to suggest product details; when you browse or import from the recipe catalog we may fetch recipes from TheMealDB. Those services receive only the query needed (for example a barcode or search terms), not your account credentials or household contents.
- Recipe sharing - when you create a private recipe share link, anyone with that link can view the shared recipe and import a copy into their own household. They do not receive access to your full household or other private data. You control when to create or stop sharing.
- AI assistant - when you use chat, we send your message and the household context needed to answer to Amazon Bedrock (an AWS service, processed in the EU) to generate a reply. We do not use your chats for advertising. GiKi does not change household data until you confirm in the app.
- Sign-in providers - Apple (Sign in with Apple on iPhone) and Google (Google Sign-In on iPhone and Android) authenticate you and send us the identity token, name, and email needed to create or link your GiKi Home account. They do not receive your household data.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the app settings, which permanently removes your personal data. If you are the last household member, household data is deleted too.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for push notifications at any time via device settings.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at gi.charkviani@gmail.com.
7. Children's Privacy
GiKi Home is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
